How to join our Research Team

Undergraduate Students at NC State University

Research assistants are essential for the success of our program. They support all activities developed by the grad students and also help with activities related to teaching and extension. Research assistants are sponsored by project grants and available positions will be announced on our webpage. Opportunities may arise at any time during the year, so we recommend checking out our website regularly. If you want to be included in our listserv to receive emails about opportunities in our lab, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/LsPWW9SrWD73Zik48

Graduate Students (M.S. and Ph.D. students)

The main component for the availability of positions as a graduate student in our program is resources for tuition and stipend. There are two ways to join our program: you can bring your assistantship (from a governmental agency, for example) or you can apply for an assistantship provided by our Lab. When available, the positions sponsored by our Lab will be always announced on our website and also on the Soil Science Grad Program Webpage at https://cals.ncsu.edu/crop-and-soil-sciences/students/graduate/assistantships/. Opportunities may arise at any time during the year, so we recommend you check this website regularly. If you want to be included in our listserv to receive emails about opportunities in our lab, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/RhLTQPMUsDEs6BGY9

When applying for an announced position, it is important to look at the starting date of the specific position and to keep in mind the admission deadlines for the grad school. For positions starting in the fall semester (August), the deadline is June 25th for US citizens and March 1st for internationals. For positions starting in the spring semester (January), the deadline is November 25th for US citizens and July 15th for internationals. More details are available at https://grad.ncsu.edu/admissions/deadlines/.

Visiting Undergraduate or Graduate Students (Short Internships)

Some international students have the opportunity of doing an internship abroad sponsored by their programs. We may offer a temporary position in our research group for short internships (6 to 12 months). In this type of internship, the visitor will join our group and will be integrated into the activities of ongoing projects.  As we don’t have funds allocated for this type of internship, the visitor is responsible for the costs associated with the internship. If you are interested in this type of position, please email Luke (luke_gatiboni@ncsu.edu).

Research Visitors

Collaboration and Exchange Experiences are very important for our group. We may offer a temporary position in our research group for research visitors (typically 6 to 12 months). In this type of internship, the visitor will join our group and will be integrated into the activities of ongoing projects. If sponsored, the visitor can also develop their research project, if aligned with the activities of our program. As we don’t have funds allocated for this type of internship, the visitor is responsible for the costs associated with the visit. If you are interested in this type of position, please email Luke (luke_gatiboni@ncsu.edu).
